A crafty mom to 3 little trouble makers, step mom to one little angel and wife to one smart guy.
I grew up on the central coast of California in Santa Cruz. Some of my earliest childhood memories are of me and my siblings riding around in an antique buggy at the flea market with my parents every weekend. At 10, I was introduced to thrift stores, purely out of necessity, and was quite mortified by the experience. By 14, I finally got a clue, embraced thrifting, and was accredited in my yearbook for my unique style. In high school, I started my first business with my sister, called Butterfly Garden, buying vintage and reselling it at the flea market for a profit. I continued that business through high school, making bi-monthly trips to San Francisco to sell.
My parents weren't supportive of the art school education, so I went off to a school of their choice, to earn a degree in marketing, hoping it would support my entrepreneurial adventures.
After college, I moved to San Francisco and landed a job at a small ad agency. I enjoyed the work but my favorite part was making things and selling them to my co-workers and friends. Once I had enough confidence in my craft, I retired from the ad business and went off on my own 10 years ago, and haven't looked back.
I spent two years with my own accessories line, frequenting trade shows and selling to boutiques across the country.
For the past 6 years, I have been home raising my daughter and twin boys and replicating my own childhood with baking and craft projects and many outdoor adventures which I chronicle here on Picnic.
Parties, polaroids, sunshine, snowflakes, mid-century design, simple sewing, day-trips and year-long trips, and little children who steal cookies from the cookie jar when nobody is looking.
