Inspired by Jackie's library tote, I made Bijou one of her own, large enough to double as an overnight tote.
To make:
- Cut 2 - 14" x 14" squares (top fabric)
- Cut 1- 14"w x 12"l (bottom fabric)
- Cut 2- 12" pieces of ribbon. I used this.
- Stitch one of the top pieces to the bottom piece using a 3/8' seam allowance along the 14" sides, right sides facing each other.
- Repeat with the other top panel. Once you are done you will have one large rectangle.
- Press 1/2" to the wrong side along one of the sides of the top fabric. Turn under and press again 1/2".
- Tuck one edge of one of the handles into this seam you just created 3 inches in from the end of the bag. Tuck the other end of the handle 3" in from the opposite side.
- Top stitch creating a top hem for your tote & securing one of the handles.
- Repeat steps 6-8 on the other side of the top fabric.
- Fold your bag in half, right sides facing each other and sew 3/8" seam allowance up the two sides of your tote.
- Using zig-zag scissors trim the side seams. This will prevent your bag from unraveling at the seams in the wash.
- Turn right side out and press.
- I used fabric glue and glued on the little bunny applique (optional).
