I hope this craft idea isn't coming a few days too late...
I was about to toss my 2009 calendar into the recycling bin when I had the idea to turn it into gift tags for the new year. The graphics, the numbers, days of the weeks, and months make for some cute tags. Don't you think?
I bought this tag punch during one of JoAnn's many 50% off sales and I have found so many uses for it already. I highly recommend buying one, you won't need to buy gift tags ever again!
To Make:
I always check the sale table at The Paper Source every time I go in for a visit. On this lucky day, I scored some glassine envelopes and red scalloped edge note cards.
Step 1: Handwrite a thank you note on a 3x5" index card.
Step 2: Stamp "thank you" at the top. I LOVE the imperfections that come from using rubber stamps.
Step 3: Affix the index card to the scalloped note card with Happy Tape. I buy mine here.
Step 4: Seal your envelope with a cute sticker. I bought my pelican stickers here.
Step 5: Stamp and hand write addresses. I used these Martha Stewart labels from her wedding collection because I like how their scalloped edge matched the edge of the note card inside.

My Mom gave me a huge bag of wool sweaters she had washed in hot water to felt them. They had already been hacked up by her because she had made a patchwork quilt for her bedroom. They sat in my laundry room for nearly a year until I came across a good use for them in Amanda Blake Soule's book, Handmade Home. This project can be done with children, as long as they are old enough to use scissors.
Supplies- Wool in various colors, embroidery thread, hand-sewing needle, scissors.
Step 1: Cut 1" squares from the wool felt, hundreds of them. They don't need to be perfectly square so this is the part I encourage you to enlist your child's help on a rainy day.
Step 2: Choose the length of your garland, double this number and add 10". Cut a piece of embroidery thread to this length.
Step 3: Thread the needle and double the strand of thread and start threading the squares of wool onto the thread. When your garland is complete, tie a knot at the end to secure the wool.
Step 4: I choose to hang mine along my mantel for some fall/winter decor but it also looks nice as a Christmas tree garland.
Inspired by Jackie's library tote, I made Bijou one of her own, large enough to double as an overnight tote.

I purchased my notebooks online from Muji but you can also find these at most office supply stores.
Alphabet stamps are available at most craft stores. I've started a small collection and have about 4 different fonts to choose from. I love them all! Share your collection with friends, I promise they will return the favor.

I found a good use for the "cup of joe" stamp I carved a while back.
I love scouring the blogs for fun tutorials or free downloads. Many crafters are full of inspiration during this time of the year and are quite generous with sharing their patterns, tips and how-to instructions.
This lovely "gratitude wrap" seemed like the perfect craft project for this time of year. I plan to tuck ours in the car and make good use of those long trips through the snow.
...now I'm glittering everything in my house and there is glitter EVERYWHERE!
Tomorrow is "decorate the classroom for winter" day at Bijou's school so we spent the afternoon glittering stars and snowflakes. Thanks again for the inspiration Martha!
I was in a trusting mood and let Bijou touch the usually forbidden "Mommy camera." Not the little point and shoot camera but the Mother Lode. Here is some of her "work"...
My Carefree Clothes For Girls book finally arrived in the mail and I decided my first project would be the apron top from the cover. A simple sewing project perfect for the beginner. It did involve a button hole so I had to brush the dust of my machine's manual and re-acquaint myself with how exactly to do that. I knew it was risky to make something for Bijou that had a button since she has been on a button strike for about 3 years now so I decided to make up a little white lie.
B: "Mommy, I don't like it."
Me: "Why?"
B: "Because it has a button."
Me: "Oh, did you think this yellow thing was a button?"
B: "Yeah."
Me: "Oh no, this isn't a button it's called a lemon drop. Have you ever seen one? It looks like a button but it's actually a lemon drop. Come over here so I can try it on you."
B: "OK."
It's that easy! I hope I'm not racking up bad Karma for this but really, what is the harm in a little button?!
I was invited to partake in a holiday wreath decorating project by my friends Whitney and Heather over at Rookie Moms. The kits were supplied by UL, a company who tests the safety of lights. Since I'm on the classroom decorating committee at Bijou's french school, I thought it would be nice to decorate mine with Joyeux Noel (Merry Christmas).
To Make:
1. Cut out letters from various scraps of fabric and paste onto circle-punched card stock.
2. Hang each letter by a piece of string. I love to use bakers twine.
3. Add ribbon, ornaments, lights, etc.
